Deepa Kariyawasam has been an NHS dietitian for 22 years of which 20 years have been in renal. Deepa is also a multi-professional clinical lead for the London Kidney Network. She has also been the British Dietetic Association representative for the British Renal Society 2009-2013 and been an active member of the nutrition committee of the European Dialysis and Transplant Nurses Association from 2005-2008. Deepa has also been on the committee for the development of the National Institute Clinical Excellence (NICE) Kidney Disease guidelines as well as being on the editorial board of the Journal of Renal Care.
Deepa has published work in journals and textbooks including a chapter on HIV and renal nutrition. 
Deepa has also led on the development of the international award-winning multicultural low potassium diet sheet resources for the British Dietetic Association Renal Nutrition Group.
