Dr. Toru Hyodo is the director of Hureai Izumi Clinic, Yokohama, Japan, belongs to Department of Urology, Kitasato University, Sagamihara, Japan and the guest professor, Sen Sok International University, Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
He has been an active clinical dialysis doctor, urologist, nephrologist and histologist for past 35 years.
His greatest achievement is that he finished the competition to develop the perfect objective diagnosis method to determine glomerular and non-glomerular hematuria in urine in 1995. Since Dr. Fairly and Dr. Birch discovered the dysmorphic red blood cells in patients’ urine with nephritis, this discovery is one of the greatest achievements in Nephrology, Urology, and Public Health in the 20th century. In those days, he had also the interest for CKD-MBD in hemodialysis patients. After finishing works of hematuria, he has concentrated clinical dialysis works and researches. Recently he has focused on nutritional status of dialysis patients.
He has been the honorary president of the Ho Chi Minh City Society of Dialysis Therapy since 2015 and also the honorary president of the Cambodian Association of Nephrology since 2016. He assisted for these two societies to be established and did for the Laos Society of Nephrology in 2018.
His recent new biggest achievement is to prove the single and absolute diabetic diet therapy for dialysis patients “Carbohydrate Counting” and spread not only in Japan but also in Cambodia, Myanmar, Vietnam and Laos.
