Boston University Medical Center and MIT | Medicine/Renal Section

Dr. Vipul Chitalia (MD PhD) is a physician-scientist and an Associate Professor of the Department of Medicine at the BU School of Medicine and an affiliate at the Institute of Medical Engineering and Science at MIT. He completed his internal medicine residency in a program with Columbia University, a renal fellowship at Boston University and a postdoc fellowship at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). His research is focused at the intersection of cardiovascular complications in different diseases. His reverse translational model has contributed to the fundamental understanding of cardiovascular diseases in patients with kidney failure and cancer. His NIH- and private-funded laboratory provides a breadth of experience to trainees in clinical medicine, molecular biology, drug discovery and impact of socioeconomic determinants of health in cardiovascular diseases. Teaching is his passion and he considers it as an honor to be able to contribute in the training of next generation of physicians, scientists and physician-scientists. He strongly believes that a true mentor is one who inspires passion from within and empowers a mentee to find his or her own path of success. Spanning over an entire spectrum, his laboratory has trained several undergraduate, graduate students, and post doctoral fellows of which several are faculties at prestigious academic institutes in the US and outside and are leaders in the biotech industry.
